On the occasion of the World Soil Day, on next 5 December, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers hosts the conference "#SOS Suolo. Giornata Nationale del Suolo". Objective: bringing back to the Italian level the debate on soil and sustainable management of its resources, sharing its urgency, particularly with the youngest.
A focus will be devoted to the priorities of the European Commission on the subject and to the process of creating the "Healthy Soil and Food" Mission in Horizon Europe. The progressive degradation of soils caused by human activity is indeed leading to disastrous effects: loss of biodiversity, reduction of well-being for 3.2 billion people, negative impacts on 10% of the global annual gross product.
In this context, Research and Innovation, together with specific policies, regulations and taxation, can play a fundamental role in reversing the course, encouraging the creation of new income opportunities linked to the regeneration of the soil. Hence the choice of the European Commission to identify in the “Healthy Soil and Food” theme one of the five Missions (strategic actions) in Horizon Europe, the new Framework Program for research and innovation.
The program of the National Soil Day is organized by the Healthy Soil and Food Mission Board of the European Commission under the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers in collaboration with the Biosafety, Biotechnology and Life Science Committee - National Coordination Group on Bioeconomy.
The event can be followed also on live streaming. You can find the link in the Programme.
